About MFO & Owner Mike Daigle

I started my Pedorthic career after many years working as a designer-fine furnituremaker, vocational teacher and leather craftsman. This was before the internet and I thought I could survive designing and building aesthetic things here on the east coast of Canada. Pedorthists are known as medical-grade shoemakers, in some countries, so I had the basics of making things with my hands as a journeyman craftsman. The clinical part is academic and involves continuous learning.

I launched Maritime Foothold Orthotics in Nova Scotia as an associate of Thera-Ped Foot & Ankle Clinic in Saint John. They have attended clinics at Fenwick Medical in Halifax since 1987, working with South End Physiotherapy. I trained with Thera-Ped as a technician where I made thousands of foot orthotics for 3 different Pedorthists over several years before I pursued clinical assessments and certification as a Canadian Certified Pedorthist, a C. Ped (C). Thera-Ped is a full service foot clinic where they make everything from scratch, including shoe modifications, custom and stock footwear. Now, at Fenwick Medical, we have begun The Orthopaedic & Sport Foot and Ankle Centre with orthopaedic surgeons, sport medicine physicians, and a top rated staff of therapists. I am very fortunate to work as part of their robust team.

I have a special interest in sports medicine as pertains to Pedorthic management of foot/ankle/knee pain, because I have particular experience in swimming, biking and running for most of my life. I see many patients who present with an array of biomechanical problems, some from playing soccer, basketball, others from trying to keep active walking every day. We make orthotics for all sorts of lower limbs anomalies, and the patients range from children to senior citizens who are striving to maintain an active lifestyle; not only athletes want to keep moving. I take a balanced approach to my clinical care because there is usually more than one reason we suffer from foot or ankle pain. I like to explore lifestyle to better understand who and what I am treating. Our devices are the best on the market, developed with over three decades of trial and error.

A sense of well being is very important to each of us. When our feet hurt we lose that great quality of life that we all seek to maintain. Mobility is for everyone.
